This page explains how to request that your account and its associated data be deleted from any app published by Codelio, including Wisp, the private messenger. You can delete your account yourself from inside the app, or ask us to do it for you by email.
Option 1 — Delete it yourself in the app
This is immediate and needs no request. In Wisp:
- Open Wisp and go to the You tab.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm when asked. Your account is erased from our servers straight away, and the app signs out.
Option 2 — Ask us by email
If you no longer have the app installed or cannot access your phone, send us a request:
- Write to [email protected] with the subject "Account deletion request".
- Include the name of the appconcerned (for example, "Wisp").
- Include the phone number the account was created with, in international format, so we can identify it.
- We reply to confirm, then delete the account. Requests are handled within 30 days, and usually within a few days.
We may ask you to confirm the request from a channel tied to the account before we delete anything — deletion is permanent, so we make sure it is really you asking.
What is deleted
Deleting your Wisp account permanently removes, from our servers:
- Your account record and the phone number attached to it
- Your encrypted profile name, about text and profile photo
- Your username and username link, if you set one
- Your registered devices and all their public encryption keys
- Any encrypted messages still queued for delivery to you
- Your stories
Your conversation history, media and private encryption keys live only on your own device. They are never uploaded in readable form, so deleting the app removes them with it. We hold no copy that we could restore.
What is kept, and for how long
- Encrypted attachments you sent may remain in our storage after your account is gone. They are stored under random identifiers that are not linked to any account, so they can no longer be traced back to you, and they are encrypted with keys we never hold — neither we nor anyone with access to our storage can open them.
- Messages already delivered to the people you talked to stay on their devices. We cannot delete a copy that only they hold.
- Server and security logs containing transient technical data, such as IP addresses, are retained for up to 30 days for abuse prevention, then discarded.
- Records we are legally required to keep are retained only where the law obliges us to, and only for as long as it obliges us.
Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. If you register the same phone number again later, you get a brand new account; your contacts will see you as a new person, and nothing from before is recovered.
Other Codelio apps
The same email route works for any app we publish. Write to [email protected], name the app, and give us whatever identifier the account uses, and we will delete it and tell you what was removed.
